Ol’ Scratch is at it again…

Pardon the political/theological rant, but I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and reading lately regarding political issues and am gaining some opinions for myself. Having had the gospel all my life I take for granted the blessing it is to have truth and be able to recognize it. So many others are ‘tossed about by every wind of doctrine’ not knowing up from down. I’ve found that through an understanding of the basic principles of the gospel truth can be found in any situation and the Spirit can guide us when we seek it. Unfortunately, much of what the media is calling ‘truth’ is anything but. Poor Phil with his scientific background and understanding is so very frustrated and concerned about the media misrepresentation of the issues of global warming. I see the father of all lies once again twisting and distorting truths, and deceiving many in the name of doing good. The Lord has taught us to care for the earth and be good stewards over it. I turn off the water while I brush my teeth, I try to conserve energy whenever possible, I plant trees, think hybrids are cool, and feel guilty about the load of trash we roll out each week. However, Satan has turned a good desire, caring for the Earth, into a world religion to distract us from more important “climate changes” our world faces. I found a quote that said it best when I was reading a headline article about the Baptist church’s new emphasis on taking responsibility for climate change. (The Vatican has joined the crusade also it seems. Great and abominable, anyone?)
“We have observed that Cizik (baptist leader) and others are using the global warming controversy to shift the emphasis away from the great moral issues of our time, notably the sanctity of human life, the integrity of marriage and the teaching of sexual abstinence and morality to our children,”.
Satan is very tricksy and has worked up a real humdinger with this one. He’s always trying to destroy the family from any angle, even distracting us from protecting it. Clever devil he is. I pray our leaders can filter out his distractions and fight to pass laws that protect us from REAL danger, the attack on families.

Bag Ladies

We celebrated the Relief Society birthday with a Humanitarian aid project making school bags with school supplies. I drove everyone crazy taking pictures. I’ve nominated myself as the ward photographer. I even made them all pose with their bags and they humored me, I think because they knew we weren’t serving this lovely cake until after the picture. haha. Its always so fun working alongside the awesome ladies in the Spring Ward. And man, were the sewing machines a-hummin’ as we made the denim bags. It was fun having an excuse to pull out the sewing machine and blow the dust off- some of my friends machines had never even made it out of the boxes yet. It made me feel better that I wasn’t the only who had once had high hopes of sewing lovely things for my family and never gotten around to it yet. I think that is why I love Relief Society so much, I love being strengthened by wonderful ladies who aren’t everything they wish they could be, but are so much to so many people. Happy birthday to the best idea God ever had for women- um besides husbands and kids that is.

Katie loved, loved, loved her birthday party. She brightens up whenever there are people and parties, but the look on her face when we sang happy birthday to her and she realized this party was all about her was sheer bliss. Totally priceless. She blew out her candles like a pro. (Are there candle blowing professionals? I don’t know, but she could be one.) Her dress from Aunt EuDonne and Uncle Ray was so darn cute on her. Thats our party girl.

Katie loves her Uncle John. When she found out we were going to the Dobbs’ house she ran around the house singing, “john, john, john!” This picture is of a bed time snack he shared with her, Girl Scout Cookies dipped in cool whip. I think, if its possible, she loved Uncle John even more after that treat!
Yum!

Cute Monkey Man

Matty is conquering new feats all the time. His latest was learning to do monkey bars. He is getting to be a pretty good little monkey. (I actually have the event on video, but shot it sideways again with our camera, oops!) He was inspired by the ‘contenders’ on American Gladiators. (Thanks, Aunt Em for the new addiction…) I think he was surprised to see real live people that look as strong as Superman. He wants to be strong as a gladiator. He’s been eating his meat and veggies a bit better to build his gladiator muscles. Unfortunately not all the influence from gladiator watching is positive- at the park one day he and his friend, Aurora, were pretending to be gladiators while hanging from monkey bar rings and tried knocking each other off with their feet. Don’t try this at home folks…

Lound and Lound in a Licshaw

A highlight of our weekend visit to Katy, included the ricshaw rides given by Grandpa Cherry- a very spry Senior Missionary I must say!
He was a good sport to give Katie, Matty, and Brooklynn each rides to and from the park. They loved it. Thank you Grandpa! (It reminded me of the stories Grandpa Feltis tells about teasing the ricshaw drivers during WWII in China- leaning back in the ricshaws while going uphill to tip the little Chinese driver backward, or putting their boots on the seat when they stood up to pedal so they got a surprise when they sat back down, and paying the drivers to let the marines pull them and have races through town.) Luckily our riders were a little better behaved, and buckled in! (Phil adds… “The kids have probably enjoyed a better view before, butt … they had a good time anyway. haha)

We had the privilege of hanging out with the glamorous Dobbs girls last weekend. Brooklynn always looks ready for a photo shoot, she’s just so darn cute. She was particularly charming driving in her car and doing sign language along with her baby signing video. Its my favorite when she does the sign for sleep/tired. She’s just so cute.
