Happy Easter!

The kids got to join in an easter egg hunt for playgroup. Phil had taken the day off so he got to come along and it made it so fun to do as a family. We had a picnic at the park and played and had the easter egg hunt with our ward friends. Katie loved wearing the little sheep ears and didn’t take them off the entire time. She was so cute! She got the hang of hunting for eggs this year and found plenty. Her favorite thing was the jelly beans. She yells, “basket, beans, beans, beans!” whenever she wants more candy. Matty was very serious about the hunt and gathered his 12 eggs in record time. He was kind enough to share some of his spoils with daddy. He wins the fast and sweet award. Happy Easter to all! We love and miss you!

We tried to decorate easter eggs this afternoon. Matty carefully added stickers and dipped the eggs in different colored dye. Katie however gave the egg a good whack on the table and peeled the shell off, and then she was done. With stickers, cut outs, crayons, and bowls full of colors, I had expected her to be at least a little interested in the decorating process, but no. She liked her easter egg bare.

Too Loud!

Katie is such a little daddy’s girl. She loves to work on whatever project daddy is working on. She got to help daddy build our Easter surprise this weekend. (pics to come later…) She carried around tools, hammered whatever she could, and even put screws in her mouth like dad. The only thing she doesn’t like is the noisy drill and the air compressor. She plugs her ears and yells, “TOOO LOUDD!” I had to really watch her though because sometimes she would plug her ears with whatever tool she was holding, not as big of a deal with a big allen wrench, but I about had heart attack when she stuck a pokey drill bit in her ear! Luckily there seems to be no permanent damage - she can still tell when things are too loud.

Day out with daddy and best buddy Tyler! Matty got to go see real space ships at the NASA space center. Phil took the day off work and took Matty and Ty on a little field trip. The boys had a really good time and their favorite parts were playing on the giant slide in the play center there and the magnets Phil bought for them at the gift shop. They’ve both been playing with their magnets nonstop for days. Simple pleasures for their bright little minds.

Does this look small to you? It sure didn’t to me, but the doctor was worried because I was measuring too small, so I had to go in for an ultrasound to make sure baby is okay. She is healthy and growing and they estimate about 5 lbs 9 oz right now, with a characteristically large head.
ouch! Here she is…
This is a straight shot of her face. It looks like she has Phil’s cherry cheeks and a cute little chinny chin chin. I can’t wait to meet her soon!

Hot Time at the Rodeo

This weekend we braved the crowds and heat for a cultural experience at the Houston Rodeo Kids Carnival. We weren’t prepared for the super hot day and million mile walk from the parking lot. Matty was pooped by the time we got to the kid rides at the carnival - thus the dead face on the carousel. Katie, on the other hand, seemed energized by the crowds and happily marched about in whichever direction she chose. She refused to hold anyone’s hand and so we had a tricky time herding her along in the right direction. Matty’s favorite part was the “Goliath Slide” - a big old slide you ride in a potato sack, and Katie and I enjoyed watching the Mutton Busters. She was a bit baffled at first by the sight, but loved seeing the sheep and action. By the time we made it back to the van we were nearly dead (Luckily a nice man in a golf cart had pity on the pregnant lady with heat stroke staggering through the parking lot and gave matty and I a ride back to the van. Phil had gone on ahead carrying a sleeping Katie.) We vowed next year to skip the carnival and just send the big boys to the actual rodeo.

Ferris Wheels and Pony Rides

Matty very bravely wanted to try the big ol’ ferris wheel at the rodeo carnival and loved it. Katie was too short to ride. But luckily the pony rides didn’t have a squatty limit so she got to ride. She was a cute little cow girl.

Fat and Happy

At the rodeo we indulged our fat selves. I got fried dill pickles-mmm-perfect pregnant food. And Phil ordered deep fried oreos and snickers. We opted to forgo the deep fried twinkie this time around. Yeah, we pretty much felt like puking afterwards. The ladies that ran the booth were just like you’d expect at a deep fry anything booth, fat and friendly with fabulous Texan accents.

Wild and White

I hate to always be comparing the kids, but it is just so darn funny how different Matty and Katie are. I thought the perfect symbol was their new favorite food. They both love rice now. However Matty likes his white, sticky and plain- no sauce. And Katie loves Flavored Wild Rice. She calls it “hot”. Mr. Mellow and Sister Crazy. Luckily, opposites attract (sometimes!) and they’ve been getting along really well lately. Matty loves to wrestle Katie and do silly things to make her laugh, she’s tough and silly and can take most anything he dishes out. Often he’s the one who ends up crying first in a wrestle match. She learned to say ’stupid’ this week and says it with such feeling it almost makes me cry. I’m not sure how to nip that behavior at her age. Any advice?
