Buddy!

Matty’s favorite way to spend the day is playing with his best buddy Tyler. They never want to part and can play happily together all day and then some. Unfortunately he is in kindergarten all day so they don’t get to play nearly as often as they would like. Tyler has an awesome playground in his backyard where they spend many happy hours inventing complicated pully systems and zip lines. An added bonus is Tyler’s younger sister, Claire, who Matty loves to play with also (and is in love with). Katie has also become enamored with Tyler and exclaims enthusiastically whenever we visit their house, “Ty! Ty! Ty!” Katie loves to play ‘chase’ and will run around and around the living room, singing “bee-bah-bah-bah-beeee!” (superman theme) with her silky blanket tied around her neck. Its her favorite when Matty and Tyler play chase with her and she can be the monster. She makes such a cute monster. When she pauses to catch her breath she says, “Phew! Fast like Ty!” This morning she asked for him as soon as she woke up. When I told her Tyler was at his own house she said, “Ah man!”

Babysitters

Matty loves to babysit his new cousin Skyler. He just proudly glows as he holds the little guy. Katie is more of a literal baby ’sitter’ and is learning how to be gentle with the new baby. She’s been doing pretty good though and likes to give him kisses on his soft head. She does leave his pacifier alone, which is a great show of respect in her world since she’s a binkie addict.

Manicure

Katie gave herself a very thorough manicure today. I wondered why I smelled that nail polish smell, and when I opened the bathroom door I discovered a bottle of nail polish overturned on the tile and Katie proudly saying, “I do it!” She had painted each entire finger- knuckle to nail. Luckily it was cream colored and blends in nicely with the earth toned tile and her creamy skin.
Lovely.

We had a Christmas Eve celebration with Phil’s sisters, Hollie and Heather and their cute families. It was so fun to see how much the kids have grown and how, no matter how long its been since we’ve been together, the cousins always get along and have so much fun.

My apologies for the Chevy Chase movie reference, but that’s kind of what it felt like at our Lee Family Nativity this year. We had a whole bunch of teams of Mary’s and Joseph’s. It was so cute seeing them all paired up and dressed up and feeling special. What a happy time!
My thanks to the pageant coordinators and props mistress. This picture is of the Emma and Matty team. Aren’t they sweet!

The Land of Jabbadu

While visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Ivins over Christmas break we were introduced to the desert hut/fort known as Jabbadu. Letting Matty romp around in the desert, pretending in the sage brush, and climbing the lava rocks was so worth the trip! I’m so glad there is a place on earth where kids can still wander about and explore and be carefree. Phil and I both count times like those as our favorite childhood memories and are so glad that we could share that with our kids, if even just for a couple days.
