I had an ultrasound today and we’ve got another “princess” on the way, as the doctor said. Poor Phil looked panicked at the announcement. Katie already has him wrapped around his finger, he’s in for it with two girls! We are very excited. Matty wanted a boy, but we told him he’d get more dates with just him and dad when they needed to escape the girls, so he’s okay with it. April 19th is still the due date.

Not only did we get to have our Georgian visitors, we also got to be with our current Texan family members too. Grandma and Grandpa Cherry were allowed to venture out of their mission area for the weekend to be with us. John returned from work in Malaysia just in time to join the fun with Brooklynn and Emily, and Shelly made the Holiday with a scrumptious turkey feast.

We were so lucky to have Rachelle, Sadie Jane, and Quade come to stay with us for Thanksgiving. The kids loved getting to know and spend time with their “big” cousins. Sadie Jane and Quade were very patient with our crazy little ones. The little kids had a fun time getting to do big kid stuff with their cousins like going to the museum, ice skating, laser tag/arcades, etc… Quade figured we’d see each other again in another 5-8 years if we continue our current visiting pattern. We hope it is much much sooner!

Fall in Texas

We’ve been having a happy fall. The weather is finally cool enough to play outside. Katie loves to escape outside whenever she gets the chance. Especially to visit the puppies in the backyard. She loves to get dirty. Matty had a blast jumping in this giant leaf pile at our Fall playgroup get together. Every time he saw leaves falling from trees he would get excited that its finally fall.

It seems that my baby Katie has turned into a crazy big girl overnight. When we went to pick her up from nursery on Sunday she wasn’t asleep in someone’s lap with binkie and blanket in tow. She was rowdying around with the others. Her teachers said with wide eyes that she had definitely warmed up to nursery and took on the crowd. She didn’t want to come home. Tonight I took the kids to the mall to play at the “Treehouse”. I used to take Matty all the time when he was younger, but haven’t been for a while since Katie has been big enough to play. When Matty was her age he would sit close to me for a while until he dared put a toe in. Katie (dressed appropriately in a ”Little Miss Dynamite” shirt) hit the ground running and didn’t look back. Literally. She jumped off too-big jumps, made friends, giggled, and tumbled. Matty, who was trying to work up the courage for 20 minutes to ask a little girl to play tag with him, was ready to go before Katie was. She is growing more independent everyday and seems to enjoy testing the limits. We had three lovely tantrums and battles of will today where she finally acquiesced her mother, but carefully didn’t ‘lose’ either. It was amazing. When we got to the mall she said, “walk-walk!” So I let her walk with me in the parking lot. But she refused to let me hold her hand, which was hazardous to her health in the busy parking lot. Luckily, someone had left a mall-stroller in the parking lot that she and Matty happily jumped into or we would have had to duke out that disagreement too. Phew! In contrast, Matty disobeyed today and all I had to do was give him ”the look” and he apologized sincerely. My sensitive boy is having a little trouble with his fiery sister. He cries when she yells at him, its funny because she doesn’t even yell words, she just hollers, “Aughhhh!!”. She can go from lashing out at him to hugging him in 10 seconds or less, ready to play again. He holds grudges a bit longer and yells absolutes in a dramatic sobbing emotional rage, “I’m never, never, NEVER, playing with her again!” and will sulk in his room for half and hour before emerging. It’s quite the dynamic we’ve got going here- Makes for some pretty exciting showdowns. Maybe, if you are very lucky, ya’ll will get to see the show while we are on tour for the Holidays. Yikes.

Huggable and Supervision

Matty said two particularly funny things to me this week. He said out of the blue, “Grandma’s are sure huggable aren’t they? Their hugs aren’t uck-patooie.” I think he is getting excited for the holidays and seeing his grammies.
Also, we were jumping on the trampoline and he wanted me to read him what the warning label on the mat said. I read something about “only jumping with supervision”. And he said relieved, “Oh, good. I have that.” (Referring to his Superman ‘Super Vision’.)

Halloween

We had a Happy Halloween. Matty was Superman, of course. He convinced me that we should decorate our van as “Superman’s House” for the ward Trunk or Treat party. We had fun making the decorations together. (The hanging tin foil balls are comets - not kryptonite - as that is lethal to him.) Katie was not interested at all in dressing up. She threw a mighty fit, bawling and saying “no dank you!!” when I pointed out dress up options, which was such a pity because she looked so outrageously cute dressed like Raggedy Ann. Matty tried on the costume to show her how fun it was- she didn’t buy it, but Matty and I had a good laugh at Raggedy Matty. Katie did love the parties and cookies, cupcakes, and pumpkins. She loves the party scene. Matty got a lot of candy and told me he was going to hide it in his bedroom closet so daddy wouldn’t eat it. (He knows where he got his sweet tooth from!) Don’t tell Phil, but Matty found a great hiding place for his sweet loot in the trailer of a giant semitruck Grandpa Feltis gave him. He’s pretty sure dad and Katie won’t think to look there.
