Waiting for Pets

Phil was reading a story to Matty tonight about a little guy who really wants a pet and asks his parents for one. The character in the book says his parents think a long time before making decisions. Matty commented, “I’m sure glad that you don’t think a long time about buying things dad!” If you know Phil at all-you know how very funny that comment was! (To Phil’s defense he thinks very hard about things, he just doesn’t wait very long.)

Degrees of Beauty

Matty said “Today at recess me and my buddy Andrew saw a girl on the teeter-totter that was 50 degrees beautiful! And I went ‘boi-oing!’” (Hopefully the sound effect was referring to the hearts popping out of his eyes, which he says happens when he sees beautiful girls.) He then told his buddy that his girlfriend back home, Claire, is 150 degrees beautiful. Andrew grabbed Matty by the shoulders and said, “I have got to meet her!” I didn’t know that “rating chics” started in preschool.

Phil is dutifully supplementing Matty’s “British School” curriculm with some of the finer classical skills. This week Phil taught Matty about Noogies, Wedgies, and making fart noises with your hands. Matty calls wedgies, “budgies” and thinks it means to show your underwear. Lovely.

Matty enjoys coming with me to watch some of my young women play volleyball at Spring High. He made himself a construction paper megaphone and signs to cheer on the girls today. He even practiced his cheering in the van (over and over again!) He has a crush on one of the tall blondies on the team and loves to cheer for her. He had me find out her name and everything. He’s so funny.

Katie is small, cute and sweet, but decisive and stubborn. The kids get to watch scooby doo and eat popcorn with Aunt Shelly when we go out, but Katie insists on holding the popcorn bowl. This little sprite is full of spunk.

Mr. Handy Man strikes again. Phil designed and constructed a entertainment niche in our game room. It looks really cool with his new telly. He framed and drywalled the whole thing in a weekend. But unfortunately he hasn’t had another weekend off of school in a long time so he spends evenings taping and mudding.

190 Babies

Matty has decided that we should have 190 kids in our family. I’m not sure where he got that number, but he consistently refers to it, so I think it is set. The other day he said, “See, I can keep track of sissy so well I could take care of 190 brothers and sisters. Except, I don’t know what you’ll do while I’m at school. Do you think you could try to look after them until I got back?” It is true, I don’t know what I’d do without his good help around the house, but I think 190 might be a few too many for me!
