All Girl

Katie is such a GIRL! It is so funny. Every morning she decides what she wants to wear. She’ll run her hand across her clothes that are hung in her closet, pull a few things out to look at them closer and then she’ll get excited about something and pull it off the hanger. Its never the same thing. I gave a suggestion one morning when she looked like she was having a hard time deciding but she shook her head, no- guess she didn’t like my pick. She also brings me the container that I keep her ponytail holders in so I will do her hair. She loves to admire the lovely results in the mirror. Today her girlishness overwhelmed me when she had a one-hour, kicking, throwing, feet stomping tantrum over who knows what!? (Really, I still can’t figure out what set her off.) I think if her ‘baby talk’ could be translated into ‘teen’ she said something like this, “You just don’t understand me! You’re ruining my life! Get out of here! And take this with you! And this too! Wait, come back! Can’t you see that I need you right now! You just don’t understand me!” I thought I had at least 12 more years before all this. Yikes! We are in for it.

We are so happy to have family in town! Shelly got to meet little Brooklynn. And we all got to hang for a little while last weekend when the Dobbs came over. This weekend we went and spent the night at the Dobbs house. Doing the hour drive in two days makes it not seem far at all. We put the kids to bed and watched “24″ until the wee hours and ate ooey gooey brownies and ice cream. So fun! In the morning we took the kids to try out the little park right by their house. We had such a nice time! (Look out Em, we’ll be inviting ourselves over again soon!

A Little Light Reading

Katelyn just loves to spend time with Aunt Shelly. Her face just lights up whenever Shelly walks into the room. The other day I couldn’t find Katie upstairs. I discovered her reading a magazine on Aunt Shelly’s bed. (Check out that binkie! She’s become a little Maggie Simpson. She never even liked them until about a month ago. I try to take them away when she’s not looking, but she has a hidden stash somewhere and always finds a new one. After I put her to bed one night and shut the door I went back in to get something I had forgotten. I caught her pulling out a binkie she had stashed earlier underneath the blanket she sleeps on. She gave me the proudest little grin. I got a good laugh out of that, and she was so cute I let her sleep with it!)

Brooklynn, Emily, and John came to visit last weekend. We loved playing with sweet little Brooklynn and Phil loved having John and Emily’s help finishing up his sprinkler project in the backyard. (Isn’t Brooklynn the cutest!) John and Phil had a bit of a guitar jam session. Click here for the audio/visual experience! (Don’t tell Phil or John- they were on candid camera!)

Stink Eye

Katie’s bright eyes are so expressive, but you have to watch out. If she is mad she gives a very meannnnn evil eye. Phil thinks that being able to give “the stink eye” is innate in females. Katie’s already surpassed my ability in that area though. Phil says I’ve never been able to give a very convincing dirty look- she must’ve got it from the Cherry line. (haha!)

Katie folds her little hands for the prayer. It is so cute. She also will wave her hands in the air to tell us when she’s “all done”. (Thanks Jennie and Ellie for the modified sign!) She is finally over her recent bought of illness. Its fun to have our spunky girl back, but I sure miss the snuggles. She doesn’t sit still long enough for that now that she’s well.

Growing Testimony

Three and a half years old and Matty already floors me with his insights. When I was putting Matty to bed tonight he had some questions before he was ready to pray. He asked, “How can Heavenly Father hear me from so far away? How is He my Father? I only have one dad. How come I don’t feel Him in my heart when he’s far away like I feel you and dad when you are gone at the temple?” I wasn’t expecting this conversation from the same tiny tot who peed his pants today.
I assured him that the Father of His spirit loves him more than anyone and that he listens to his prayers because he loves and cares about him. I told him that as he grew to know his Heavenly Father better, by trying to be like Jesus, and learning about him in the scriptures, and praying to him that he’d feel him in his heart too, like I do.

Matty got this fine pirates hat when he signed up for the Summer Reading program at the library. The balloon sword was a bonus from the Comedian/Magic show he got to go to at the library. He’s been doing magic tricks for us ever since. Today he made a magic wand and built a “Magic Box”. He wrote “Magician Matt” and drew a picture of himself in cape and hat to decorate each side of the magician box. He said, “You can be my lovely assistant. Step into the box.” I obeyed. He put a lid over my head and said his magic words and waved his wand. When he took the lid off and saw me still in the box he looked truly disappointed and said, “Ah man! It didn’t work. You were supposed to disappear!” I had a good laugh over that. Later we traded places - he was the “lovely” assistant - and devised a way he could sneakily disappear under the piano bench. Good Show!

We Love Aunt Shelly

We are having such a great time with Aunt Shelly living with us. Although we are sorry she and Uncle Boni have to be apart right now we are so happy to have her here. Katelyn saves her biggest smiles for Shelly and Matty loves to perform for her and sniff out any candy she may have in her room.
She’s a good sport to put up with us all.
