Matty said today, “when I turned three years old I got three presents.” And then he thought for a moment and said, “Heeeey- When I turn four I bet I’ll get FOUR presents!!”

Matthew likes to spell and write words. He uses phonetic spellings. My favorite is how he spells “Matty”, He spells it M-A-T-T. Mat- T.

Wednesday morning at 6 am Phil and I awoke to an excited little boy exclaiming, “Today is the day Kade-o is coming! AND its Valentine’s Day! Happy Valentines Day!” Later he told me, “This is my best day ever!” He was in such a good mood he gave us all hugs for making his breakfast.

A bug flew into our house. Matty said, “I know the name of that bug, it’s a studahdooberdink. I know a lot about bugs… and baby sisters. I’m an expert.”

Matty helped bring in a scripture bag to church. As he staggered under the weight of the big bag he said, “I may be small, but I sure am MIGHTY strong!”

Phil is Matty’s “sunbeam” teacher at church. He said Matty is the only kid in his class who can’t reach the water fountain on his own. hee hee.

Katie Jean - Dirt

Katelyn loves to play in the dirt. I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that letting her down outside will result in dirty toes, muddy teeth, and brown knees. Today at the park I gave up steering her towards the slides and toys and just let her crawl in the bark, and dig in the leaves, dirt and rocks. She was a mess! But she was so happy! Remembering the look on her perfectly pleased, grungy little face, made getting the mud stains out of her clothes no chore at all.

Its not my fault! He was born this way! Matty is a nerd. Today Matty and I had an argument that I never thought I’d have with a three year old boy, especially my own. Phil had gotten home from work and was working on a project with tools in the yard. It was a beautiful evening and I thought Matty should go outside to play and be with dad. (Sunshine, dad, tools, what could be better?) He didn’t want to go out because he wanted to stay inside and practice writing his alphabet letters. (He eventually won the argument and filled six pages of computer paper with colored words and letters.)

Katie Jean - One Step

Katie took her first step on Sunday. Phil and I were teasing her with her favorite stuffed cow, “cow-cow”, to get her to come to us. And she finally did with one very steady step. Her brother, Mr. Superstar, couldn’t stand being out of the spotlight and kept getting in between us. He said, “Okay, now I’ll pretend to be the baby, hold the toy for me!”
