Matty helped mom get ready for the ExxonMobil Holiday Ball. I rarely ever get dressed up so it was quite the novelty for my little buddy. We spent the day shopping for (cursed!) dress shoes. I asked Matty at the fourth shoe store we’d been to what he thought of a certain pair of shoes and he said in a bored voice, “Pretty fancy, mom.” I tricked him later coming out in my new hair rollers and told him I was all ready for the party and asked “What do you think?” He scrunched up his face as if he were trying to think of something nice, and finally said apologetically, “Mom, I really don’t like your hair like that.” He had a good laugh with me and looked very relieved when I told him I was teasing about wearing the rollers. The best was, I painted my toenails a burgundy color for the event. Since I rarely do so Matty wanted to show everyone my “Beautiful Toes!” Store clerks, house guests, and anyone else we ran into on Saturday were made to examine my toes. I was so embarrassed.
