Katie had a fabulous time at playgroup in the Market Street Water Fountains. She is so happy in the water. She’s been such a pleasure lately. Just joyful and fun. She loves being a big sister and being able to do big girl things on her own, like buckle her carseat, pull on her shorts, and get her own dishes at mealtimes.

Katie has no trouble entertaining herself. She is a very busy little girl. As is evidenced by the above pictures she usually keeps busy making big messes. The first picture- while I was ushering out guests from a baby shower I hosted she helped “clean up” the left over chocolate dipped strawberries by sucking all the chocolate off them and putting them back on the table. The other picture is of her covered in toothpaste. What it doesn’t show is the bathroom sink, countertop, toilet, and walls that were also covered. I didn’t get a picture of the lovely mess she made by crumbling an entire bar of deoderant all over her body and the bathroom floor. That was interesting to clean up.
She is amazingly stealthy and speedy in her mess making so its always a little exciting to come around the corner to see what she’s been up to in her free time.

Matty was blocking the stairway to be pesty the other day and wasn’t going to move until Katie gave him the password. When Matty taunted, “What’s the Password?” Not knowing the ‘password’, Katie socked him in the gut and walked away. (You don’t mess with Katie, she always wins.)

I joke that we have our own foreign language instructor come in each day to tutor our children. Thanks to recorded episodes of ”Signing Time” our kids are learning a lot of sign language. Matty has a great memory and loves to learn new signs and teach them to me. He looks forward to each weekend when a new episode is recorded. Its super cute to see Katie do the signs too. Something about her chubby little hands and arms just makes it so cute. Tonight Matty and Daddy were out playing catch- warming up for the T-ball season that starts this week. In true Katie, rag-a-muffin, fashion she had crazy hair, muddy jeans, was now shirtless, and was marching about the yard barefoot signing and hollering, “Baseball! Baseball!” Then, my ‘delicate flower’ belched and laughed. (The only thing missing from this lovely picture was a ‘cup’ readjustment.) Matty may not have a brother, but Katie’s a pretty good substitute.

Hey Barb, does this sound familiar…. “Twinkle twinkle, little sty how i wonday what you I”? Katie seems to have the same cute little speech impedement that cousin Kayson did when he was her age. R’s are y’s. (Grandma says Kelsey does too?)It makes me laugh, especially when she asks for “moy ky-kys pweez”. (more crackers please) Another funny thing she says that kept grandma giggling was calling Matty “Bub”. “I catch you Bub?” was gram’s favorite when Katie wanted to catch Matty at the bottom of the slide. She also varies it to Bub, Bubby, Bubba, and Bubs. “Bubby, ‘ay you??” (where are you) ”I way (wear) Bubba’s boots!!” My all time favorite to hear is “Thanks, Bub!”

“Hoy Matey”

Katie enjoys playing pirates with Matty. She feels pretty tough with an eye patch, sword, and cape! Whenever she sees anything pirate related around town she’ll yell out, “HOY MATEY!” Its pretty cute! She was wearing a plastic hook on her hand yesterday while playing pirates on the swingset. She found out the hard way that hooks aren’t great for hanging from monkey bars when she fell five feet or so to the hard ground. I’m still traumatized from seeing her fall, but thankfully she seems to be just fine.

Happy Easter!

The kids got to join in an easter egg hunt for playgroup. Phil had taken the day off so he got to come along and it made it so fun to do as a family. We had a picnic at the park and played and had the easter egg hunt with our ward friends. Katie loved wearing the little sheep ears and didn’t take them off the entire time. She was so cute! She got the hang of hunting for eggs this year and found plenty. Her favorite thing was the jelly beans. She yells, “basket, beans, beans, beans!” whenever she wants more candy. Matty was very serious about the hunt and gathered his 12 eggs in record time. He was kind enough to share some of his spoils with daddy. He wins the fast and sweet award. Happy Easter to all! We love and miss you!

We tried to decorate easter eggs this afternoon. Matty carefully added stickers and dipped the eggs in different colored dye. Katie however gave the egg a good whack on the table and peeled the shell off, and then she was done. With stickers, cut outs, crayons, and bowls full of colors, I had expected her to be at least a little interested in the decorating process, but no. She liked her easter egg bare.

Too Loud!

Katie is such a little daddy’s girl. She loves to work on whatever project daddy is working on. She got to help daddy build our Easter surprise this weekend. (pics to come later…) She carried around tools, hammered whatever she could, and even put screws in her mouth like dad. The only thing she doesn’t like is the noisy drill and the air compressor. She plugs her ears and yells, “TOOO LOUDD!” I had to really watch her though because sometimes she would plug her ears with whatever tool she was holding, not as big of a deal with a big allen wrench, but I about had heart attack when she stuck a pokey drill bit in her ear! Luckily there seems to be no permanent damage - she can still tell when things are too loud.

Party Girl

Katie loved, loved, loved her birthday party. She brightens up whenever there are people and parties, but the look on her face when we sang happy birthday to her and she realized this party was all about her was sheer bliss. Totally priceless. She blew out her candles like a pro. (Are there candle blowing professionals? I don’t know, but she could be one.) Her dress from Aunt EuDonne and Uncle Ray was so darn cute on her. Thats our party girl.
