Where’s Katie?

I don’t know how many times a day I say and/or hear “Where’s Katie?” I guess its a middle child thing, she just does her own thing and can entertain herself. Unfortunately that sometimes, or most the time rather, means mischief and messes - unless she’s planted herself in front of a television (she’s a champion couch potato). Its always fun (and exciting) to find her because she’ll throw out her arms with a big bright grin and say, “mommy!” And I remember the sunshine we were missing while she was gone.

Ally looks so cute in her tiny little swimsuit. She really loves the water and watching the kids splash about. We are loving these t-shirt swimming suits for our white-meat kids - saves on sunblock.

This cute little guy finally got his daddy back home! Hooray. We are having so much fun with Uncle Boni - especially Matty who keeps him busy all day with board games and soccer. He’s also been teaching me some yummy recipes and cooking tricks. We’re all so glad Uncle Boni finally got to come home.

A Breeze

Rain = Matty, rejuvenating and gentle, but can flood
Sunshine = Katie, warm and life-giving, but can burn
Wind = Ally, or cool breeze rather, hopefully won’t turn into a tornado!
Houston summer has taught me this, too much sun and too much rain is bearable with a little breeze. I’m so thankful for my little ones - all three.

Go Green!

So, the eco rally cry, “Go Green” is sort of a family joke around here. Before, heaven forbid, you think we do not love and cherish our dear planet let me assure you otherwise - we do. However, my hemi-driving ’big oil’ hubby (aka, polar bear hater - just kidding, Phil!) has some issues with the media coverage of the global weather condition. (I can’t say “global warming” or he’ll get that crazy look in his eye again. “Organic” is also a good one to get him going.) All about efficiency, he scoffs at unpractical behavior in the name of earth-saving. For example, recycling. According to him (and he’s almost always right, so I’m pretty certain this is fact) the only energy efficient thing to recycle is aluminum - all other materials require more energy to recycle than make fresh. (Rather he champions the reduce and reuse parts of the “reduce, reuse, recycle” mantra.)
My favorite very unpractical earth saving idea I learned on playhouse disney this morning on a commercial where poor earth says cars make her sick and we should ALL ride bikes instead. The genius who came up with this one obviously doesn’t live in Houston. Although riding a Texas mile (Texas mile = 20 anywhere else) to work and back in this heat would be great for population control…
So what can I do to ease the guilt I feel when twice a week we roll out a giant pile of trash to the curb? (I’m pretty sure we could have a landfill named after us. With three residents in diapers I think we’ve got a good excuse for out-bagging our hybrid-driving neighbors week after week. I guess we could always switch to cloth diapers. But I am convinced that if Mother Earth is the good self-sacrificing mother she’s proved to be thus far she wouldn’t begrudge a fellow mother some space for diaper trash.)
So, Mother Earth, here is my contribution, from one worn-out mother to another. The water I’m saving by never getting time to shower- its all yours! And you can keep that energy I would have wasted with my hair dryer, I’ll do without. I am saving the earth! …One bad hair day at a time!

Grandma and Grandpa Cherry have had a fruitful mission! They got to see three of their new babies this weekend. Ally was full of smiles for them, and baby Ian had snuggles for all (he still has no choice, but seemed to enjoy it anyway.) Although the Baeza’s were still in Mexico, G and G got to see little Skyler at church and get puke on his mission suit.

Baby Allyson was blessed on Sunday. It was so sweet and even more special to have Grandma and Grandpa Cherry there and Uncle John and Aunt Emily too. Ally looked so cute in her “Sweet pea” dress from Grandma Lee. She’s a lucky girl to have such an awesome daddy that could bless her.

Ally has so much to say lately. She just coos and smiles all the day long. She’s getting cuter and chubbier everyday. The kids love to get her ‘talking’ and she loves when they come play with her. She doesn’t like to be alone, which is lucky since she’s so cute we can hardly set her down.

Katie had a fabulous time at playgroup in the Market Street Water Fountains. She is so happy in the water. She’s been such a pleasure lately. Just joyful and fun. She loves being a big sister and being able to do big girl things on her own, like buckle her carseat, pull on her shorts, and get her own dishes at mealtimes.
